Tips to get rid of Cooking Odours
There is nothing like the delicious smell of dinner cooking when you open the front door, of bacon frying or a pot of piping hot coffee but a few hours later if that smell still lingers, it can leave unpleasant odours in different rooms around the home.
There have always been lots of tips to get rid of cooking smells like leaving a bowl of vinegar or baking soda out on the kitchen units to absorb odours and taint or simmering pieces of lemon or citrus peel in a pan on the hob whilst you are cooking.
Many contemporary homes and apartments are open plan with a seamless layout from the kitchen to the dining area and extending into the living space; this is particularly the case in compact properties where open plan styling can maximise the room on offer. This style of living which can be preferential even in much larger homes places a premium on quiet appliances and a kitchen that doesn’t dominate with strong smells and smoke.
In residential apartment blocks, cooking smells emanating from different flats can be a cause of complaint between neighbours. Complaints about odours are a common problem and constant strong smells may impact another householder’s ability to peacefully enjoy their property; technically, this can constitute a nuisance.
How to get rid of cooking smells
No-one wants to feel they have to restrict their menu choices because they are likely to leave lingering cooking odours throughout their home. Cooker hoods are one option but if they vent to an external wall, they can be tricky to fit and in some kitchens, this is not always possible. Even with a cooker hood, odours cannot be completely avoided and they don’t purify the air like some better alternatives.
Everyone loves the smell of dinner cooking but no-one wants to still be smelling that Indian curry a few hours later. Some people use scented candles to mask the smell but these candles and air fresheners can contribute to poor quality air in the home in a different way – they cover up odours and don’t actually eliminate them, it just smells nicer.
Air purifiers can work for smoke and odour removal and combat other smells in the home in addition to cooking residues. Cigarette smoke, pets, mould and just a busy house full of people can all leave strong or residual odours; an air purifier can be used just for eliminating smells by fitting an appropriate odour removal filter.
How air purifiers remove cooking smells?
It is logical to think that air purifiers do just that, purify the air and remove invisible particles and pollutants which can affect the quality of the air that we breathe indoors. Poor quality air can contribute to certain health issues in some people like asthma and bronchitis and make seasonal allergies worse.
However, air purifiers can also be fitted with a specific type of filter that assists with odour removal throughout your home and particularly the cooking smells in open plan accommodation.
Leitz is launching a new series of speciality filters for their TruSens range of air purifiers. One of these is specifically designed to filter out odours leaving you free to cook the meals of your choice without extracting a heavy price afterwards or needing any other form of kitchen extraction.
The Leitz TruSens Z-2000 can be fitted with a speciality filter for odour and VOCs – VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds. These are gases released from solids and liquids and can be easily emitted from household products such as cleaning fluids and sprays or paints and decorating and DIY products. Pop the Z-2000 in your kitchen with the speciality Odour and VOC 3-in-1 HEPA filter and keep the atmosphere free from cooking odours and smells throughout your home.
How does the filter remove odours and VOCs?
The best substance for odour and VOC removal is activated carbon and the speciality odour and VOC filter has the most carbon mass of all the different types of TruSens filter on offer.
The standard filters for TruSens products have a carbon layer that fits on the HEPA - High Energy Particulate Air - drum whereas the speciality filters have a carbon drum that sits in front of the HEPA drum. The odour and VOC carbon drum has three layers of carbon pellets with larger amounts of carbon mass and is specifically designed to target odours.
Leitz TruSens air purifiers can refine the quality of the air we breathe within our properties. Their range of speciality filters is designed to combat different issues including cooking odours and, without masking smells or compromising air quality in a different way.
