Can an air purifier remove dust mites from your home?
The exposure to dust mites in your home can lead to a variety of health concerns. The TruSens air purifier includes DuPont™ HEPA filtration, capturing airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns, including dust mites.
What are dust mites?
Dust mites are insect-like pests that are too small to see with the naked eye. One of the most common triggers causing year-round allergies and asthma, dust mites thrive in temperatures between 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, and humidity levels between 70 and 80 percent. Often found inside bedding, carpets, furniture or curtains, they feed off dead human flakes of skin. Since these dust mites often become airborne, filtering them out by circulating your air through an air purifier will help reduce the prevalence of these common airborne allergens.
Symptoms of the dust mite allergy
Common symptoms of the dust mite allergy include:
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- Itchy, red or watery eyes
- Stuffy nose
- Itchy skin
- Cough
If you commonly experience asthma symptoms, you might also encounter:
- Difficulty breathing
- Chest tightness or pain
- Shortness of breath
- Wheezing
Health concerns
Common exposure to dust mites may lead to the onset of allergies and asthma. Dust mites can also cause an immune system reaction, called allergic rhinitis. This occurs when the immune system overreacts to pollutants, resulting in a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, and swelling around the eyes. Dust mite allergies range from mild to severe. Asthma sufferers who are sensitive to dust mites will more commonly face a flare-up or asthma attack.
Ways to get rid of these harmful dust mites in your home
When dust mites and their waste products become airborne, they are likely to be inhaled or reach contact with your skin. TruSens air purifiers circulate the air through multiple levels of DuPont™ filtration, capturing microscopic particles such as dust mites, household dust, smoke, dander and pollen.
TruSens ensures cleaner air coverage throughout the entire room by utilizing an engineered airflow called PureDirect technology. This bi-directional airflow has been optimised to move purified air more comfortably and effectively, minimizing areas of stagnant air.
Knowing air quality levels of your room helps optimise clean air distribution even further. TruSens models with the separate SensorPod air quality monitor detects pollutants such as dust mites and shares the readings with the air purifier. Fan speed is automatically adjusted based on the detected pollution. This ensures that pollutants get filtered out quickly and that cleaner air is delivered until the room is clean. Air quality readings are also displayed so you know that your air is clean.
