Fight chemical pollutants that linger in your home
Chemical pollutants and VOCs are a byproduct of manufacturing and human activities, even inside our homes. Cleaning solutions, furniture and building products often contribute to the chemical pollutants found in indoor air.
Reduce chemical pollutants that linger in your home with TruSens air purifiers
Some chemical pollutants may pose a threat to our health by polluting the air we breathe. TruSens air purifiers can help you breathe better by utilising activated carbon to remove certain gases and odours that circulate throughout an indoor room.
What are chemical pollutants?
Chemical pollutants are substances that are brought into the environment through industrial, agriculture, or other human activities. They can contaminate our food, pollute the air we breathe and may be harmful to our health. It is a misconception that chemical pollution only happens at the point of manufacture. Certain chemical compounds continue to be harmful as they are used or placed inside our homes. According to the EPA, studies have found that levels of several organic chemicals average 2 to 5 times higher indoors than they do outdoors. During, and for several hours immediately after certain activities such as paint stripping, levels may be 1,000 times higher than outdoor levels.
What are VOCs?
Chemical pollutants emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids may originate from materials used to construct building materials, carpet and furniture. These types of chemicals are often referred to as volatile organic compounds, or VOC’s. Even certain household cleaners and contaminants in paraffin used for candles can emit chemical pollutants. Products emitting such pollutants number in the thousands (EPA), and can be harmful to your health when ingested, breathed in, or absorbed through the skin.
A condition referred to as Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) has been linked to poor air quality levels that may be attributed to the presence of VOC’s. New construction, remodeling or redecorating a home or office can introduce an increased level of chemical pollutants when building materials, paints, cleaners and furniture are introduced into the environment.
Some sources of VOCs include:
- Cleansers and disinfectants
- Paint and other solvents
- Building materials
- Furniture
- Air fresheners and perfume
- Aerosol sprays
- Pesticides
- Cleansers and disinfectants
Common health effects of chemical exposure:
- Eye irritation
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Asthma worsening
How do you decrease the amount of chemical pollutants indoors?
An air purifier such as the TruSens Z-2000 can reduce chemical pollutants that circulate throughout your home. TruSens filters by DuPont™ feature an activated carbon level of purification that removes certain gases and odours from the air. The activated carbon undergoes a baking process that dries out the carbon and eliminates impurities. From there, it forms a large surface area that traps the chemical contaminants. With the help of TruSens, you can breathe easier with a reduced presence of chemical pollutants in your air.
